Céad Míle Fáilte! A hundred thousand welcomes! A wonderful Gaelic expression pronounced (more or less) kayd MEE-luh FAHL-cheh and used expansively to suggest the limitless embrace of true hospitality. Here at the First Congregational Church of San Jose, that is what we strive to offer you; a place where you will feel entirely welcomed, no matter who you might be, or what life journey has brought you to our door.
We are a member congregation of the United Church of Christ and, perhaps more importantly, we are an Open and Affirming church community. When we say that everyone is welcomed here, we really mean it. While we embrace a wide variety of beliefs in all aspects of our spiritual and community lives, we tend to be a progressive Christian community. Yet there are many who join us in our worship and mission lives who do not ascribe to this, or any, theological perspective. It makes for a very lively and intentional spiritual community, and one where, we trust, you might find a home.
Whether you join us for worship on Sunday mornings or for one of our many educational or community service opportunities, we will be so happy to make your acquaintance, and walk the path with you.
We will not be worshipping together in person for the foreseeable future but will continue to provide “worship from home” opportunities until face-to-face services can be re-established. These services are most immediately available on the church Facebook page and you can view past services on this website on the Virtual Worship Service page.
Pastor Tom Gough welcomes you to share any prayers of joy or concern. You can e-mail these requests to [email protected]. Please indicate in your e-mail if your request may be shared with the larger congregation or if you would like it to remain private.
For any who wish to provide assistance to our church family during this time, please contact the church office and we will get your information into the most appropriate hands. Volunteers may be asked to pick up and deliver food, medications, or other needed items, or for the general running of essential errands.

If you are passionate about being part of a community in which we can worship together, support one another’s spiritual growth, build an inclusive community, love, and care for our neighbors, work for a more just and peaceful world, then let’s be the church together.
No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!
