The First Congregational Church of San Jose has several groups that meet for the social and spiritual benefit of its members and friends. Check the Church Calendar for specific dates and times.
Good Grief Support Group
Rev. Penny Phillips is offering a Good Grief Group on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 11:00am via Zoom. Everyone is invited. We will learn from each other, sharing our different experiences of grief and gaining strength so that we can live our daily lives with gratitude and spiritual strength.
Zoom details are sent Thursday morning the day the group meets. Any questions? Please feel free to contact Rev. Penny any time.
Dream Group
Dream Group is a circle of trust where we explore the relevance of dream imagery in our spiritual and personal lives. Dream Group meets Mondays at 12:15pm. Please check with facilitators Anne Swanson or Margaret Gainer for available openings.
Wake Up & Knit
“Wake Up” is part of the name because each handwork session ends with a period of guided mindfulness meditation, a time to still the hands, come into quiet, and wake up to the experience of the present moment and our connection to each other and all beings. Not everyone in the group is a knitter: we also have people who quilt, crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch, and create handmade dolls. Just about everybody does both personal projects and things to be donated. People have knitted caps for preemies and cancer patients; scarves for the homeless; socks for a community service provider; prayer shawls or lap robes for those who are ill; child-size quilts for the Linus Project for sick children; and knitted bird nests for orphaned baby birds being treated at Wildcare Center. Wake Up & Knit meets every Tuesday from 3:30–5:00pm in the Friendship Room.
Women of Faith
Women of Faith meet monthly to share their faith journeys and discuss how to live out Jesus’ vision for a just and loving world in an intimate setting. We are two congenial groups, one meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in one another’s homes, and the other meeting on the first Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Friendship Room. They do not meet over the summer. All are welcome.
