Through lectures, discussions, and videos, our Adult Education program provides opportunities for members and friends of the First Congregational Church of San Jose to explore a variety of topics that inform the Christian faith. In particular, we offer forums and lectures on the history of the church, the study of other faith traditions, and current social issues such as climate change, the housing crisis, and various forms inequality and discrimination.
In the past, we have held forums and lectures on topics such as:
- The Historical Jesus
- The World of Biblical Israel
- The World’s Religions (Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, etc.)
- The Cultural Divide Between Religion and Politics
- The Paris Climate Change Agreement
- Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
- Transgender Equality
- The Internment of Japanese Americans
- The Emerging Church Movement
We also hold annual Christmas and Easter forums, usually led by one of our pastors, although sometimes we’ll show a classic movie like “A Christmas Carol” or “Charlie Brown’s Christmas.”
