Two years ago the Community Services Ministry Team began to foster a relationship with New Haven Inn, San Jose’s LGBTQ+ inclusive homeless shelter. At that time we started a donation drive to collect needed items for New Haven, but it came to a screeching halt in March 2020. Now we’re giving it another try! New Haven Inn is currently in need of the following items: [...]
We’re so excited to have you join us in person for our next Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley project on Saturday, April 30th! Bring your hearts and your energy and volunteer for this worthwhile event. Rebuilding Together brings communities and volunteers together to rehabilitate the homes of low income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled, so that they may live in warmth, safety, and independence. Past projects have not only brought joy and happiness to the homeowner but have also left our volunteers with a sense of accomplishment and feelings of gratification knowing that they have helped someone who is truly in need. Go to Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley to register by April 11th.
The American Red Cross is facing a national blood crisis — its worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care. Blood product distributions are outpacing donations. At times, as much as one-quarter of hospital blood needs are not being met. Why is this happening? The pandemic has impacted the national blood supply and the current surge in COVID-19 cases may compound the already dire situation. But you can help! [...]

The Silicon Valley Sponsoring Committee joins thousands of leaders across the California Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) to celebrate a deal announced by the Governor and state legislators to extend the state’s eviction moratorium and rent relief program that was set to expire June 30. [...]
Because of the pandemic, more than a million California households owe almost $4 billion in back rent. While the Governor recently announced additional rent relief funds, the state must make two critical changes in order for families to access this money in time to keep them housed. Please join us in calling upon the Governor and state legislators to: [...]
A huge THANK YOU to each and every one of our 13 FCCSJ members who participated at one or both of our Spring 2021 Rebuilding Days on Saturday, April 17 and Saturday, April 24. TOGETHER we transformed the back yard, installed a beautiful new door on the garage, prepped & painted the entire exterior of the house, and repaired & installed several broken windows. We really showed what a lot of hard work and a lot of heart can do for a home, and our homeowner is deeply grateful to us for what we accomplished. [...]
In February 2021, the Community Service Ministry Team delivered about 150 paperbacks to the women’s chaplain at the Correctional Center for Women, part of the Elmwood county jail complex. The books will be placed in women’s dorms and in their library. Fiction, detective and historical novels, romance, self-help, and spiritual paperback books were donated by members of the congregation through our small groups: Community Service, Dream Group, the IT Team, and Wake Up & Knit. We are glad to be able to give the women who live at CCW new reading material during this especially closed-down time in jail. This effort was coordinated by a CSMT member who is a volunteer chaplain and teacher at the Elwood facility.
In 2020, the Community Service Ministry Team (CSMT) continued to be active while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines. The team carried out service projects benefitting the following community organizations: [...]
