What goes into selection of a Church School Curriculum? What Curriculum does FCCSJ Use? Why do we use that Curriculum? Is it the Activities, Age Level or Adaptability, is it the Bible Stories, is it the Curriculum Content? Come experience a lesson and learn more on how our Church School operates what we use to plan our lessons and look at the curriculum we use and find out why or how we chose that source.

December 3rd: “Misquoting Jesus,” led Shelley Wessels (Friendship Room/Hybrid: 11:45am)

We do not have the original documents written by the New Testament authors. In his book Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why, New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman addresses the importance of the New Testament manuscripts being passed around and copied by hand for 1500 years, producing mistakes and intentional changes in the various competing manuscript versions. We have many manuscripts, but many of the earliest are incomplete and most date several hundred years after the New Testament books were written. Bart Ehrman makes the provocative case that many of our widely held beliefs are the results of both intentional and accidental alterations by scribes.

In this compelling and fascinating book, Ehrman shows where and why changes were made in our earliest surviving manuscripts, explaining to lay people how the many variations of our cherished biblical stories came to be, and why only certain versions of the stories are published in the Bibles we read today.

We encourage people to read the book before coming to the forum. It is available in both the San Jose and Santa Clara County public libraries. You can probably order it from one of our local bookstores as well.
