June 25th at 11:45am, Friendship Room/Zoom
Join us this Sunday after worship for a forum about the South Bay Community Land Trust (SBCLT). The speakers will be Sandy Perry and Delma Hernandez. SBCLT was organized in response to the epidemic of displacement and homelessness that surged after the announcement of Google’s intention to build a tech campus in San José in 2017. SBCLT was incorporated in 2019, and it is the first and so far only community land trust in Santa Clara County.
A community land trust preserves housing as permanently affordable while allowing residents to choose whether to remain tenants, form a housing cooperative, or become owners of their units. SBCLT’s mission is to combat displacement, land speculation, and community deterioration, as well as expand housing and economic development opportunities for Santa Clara County’s low- and moderate-income residents. Their values are inclusive, collectively-led and owned communities where everyone is safe, loved, and housed.
