UPDATE: In January 2021, the Community Service Ministry Team was happy to deliver warm hats and scarves handmade by members of the Wake Up & Knit group. Homeless young adult clients of Bill Wilson Drop-In Center received 15 hats,18 scarves, and 12 cowls (a surprise donation).
Can you help homeless young adults get through cold weather on the streets of San Jose?
FCCSJ’s Wake Up and Knit group invites you to help us knit hats and scarves to be distributed at the Bill Wilson Drop in Center. We need warm knitted caps and scarves for homeless young adults for the coming cold weather. These warm items should be completed by Sunday, January 6, 2021.
You can knit on your own or join Wake Up & Knit Zoom sessions on the first and third Tuesdays each month, 3:30-4:45PM. There you’ll find knitting advice, companionship, and great conversation. Contact Church Manager Cindy Eckhardt to be added to the Wake Up & Knit email list.
Please follow these GUIDELINES:
- Yarn: 100% Acrylic
- Color: NO RED, NO BLUE. No items having RED or BLUE in them will be accepted.
- Size: Adult, in a gender neutral design
- Length for scarves: 6 inches wide up to 72 inches (6 feet) long
Completed items will be picked up from your house by Margaret Gainer. Karen Armor will deliver yarn to you. If you need a pattern Margaret Gainer will email one to you.
