The Rapid Response training for observers of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids against undocumented immigrants will be on Saturday, March 10th, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall as the program that day for Indivisible San Jose. The training will be conducted by personnel from Sacred Heart Community Service and can accommodate 25 people.
The training’s goal is how to be an accurate observer without interfering with ICE operations and how to safely respond to any ICE resistance. What are the legal rights of observers and what is the law regarding ICE raids and detentions? We will learn about the different roles of observers, taking written notes that could be used in court if need be, and video taping what happens, as well as ensuring that ICE arrests comply with law and that we have a record of families affected to whom RR network can offer support. Coffee and chat time is from 9:00 AM until the training starts at 9:30.
Only American citizens should be observers; we don’t want anyone to risk their own immigration status even if they are a legal immigrant and have a green card to work.
