Please join the Community Service Ministry Team on Sunday, May 20 at 11:30am in the Friendship Room to hear two presentations on programs our church supports that help women in need. Many of you provided books at Christmas and diapers this spring for the children of women at Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence. Executive Director Esther Peralez-Dieckmann will share with us the extent of the problem of domestic violence in Santa Clara County and how Next Door Solutions works to help women to attain safety and self-sufficiency. Victims of domestic violence are increasing in our area. Let’s inform ourselves about the extent of the problem and learn about this program. Our congregation provides volunteers for Village House Interfaith Shelter, a program for medically fragile, homeless women. Vice Chairman Patrick O’Meara will tell us about the need for the program and the success they are having placing these women in housing and helping them rebuild their lives. The Shelter Program rotates among several churches, changing location every month. One church provides the overnight shelter and another provides a safe place to be during the day (called “Warming Centers”). Village House helps the women access the services they need. This is a 24/7 program with volunteers serving in shifts from 2-8 hours each day.
